Social Events

We’ve planned a variety of Social Events to enhance your visit to Budapest and make some extra suggestions of things to do while you're there - take a look below. If you would like to book an event please visit the registration desk or click on the link to add your name to the Doodle. Reservation is confirmed upon payment to the Social Events coordinator, or on arrival to the activity. Payable events and trips have a limited number of spaces; therefore it is advisable to book early. Fees do not include getting to the meeting point, and do not include transport costs of getting to the tour.

18:00	Walk in the Jewish District Budapest is well-known for the largest synagogue of Europe. But behind the spectacular neo-romantic arches lies a dense and vigorous Jewish Quarter characterized by a colorful religious life and recently by ruin pubs, chief havens of young and ever-young Budapesters by night. Until the Second World War, Budapest was home to hundreds of thousands of Jewish people of various backgrounds. The extension of civil liberties to Jewish people matched with increasing assimilation to their Christian compatriots until the First World War. Following the trauma of the great war, the blissful days rapidly vanished until the disenfranchisement tragically culminated in the Holocaust. Following the fall of communism – a period likewise marked by further decline - a diverse and creative cultural life has reemerged from the ashes: new festivals, concerts, cafés, delis and markets, art projects and fairs are mushrooming alongside the revived Jewish cultural life.	€10	Add your name to the Doodle (Summer School event) Meet in front of CEU at 18:00. 19:30	Visit to Széchenyi Bath for Sunset Széchenyi Bath is the largest thermal bath in Budapest, and one of the largest spa complexes in Europe. It has several pools with thermal water and a large open-air swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms. 20:00	Castle in the Night Sky Walk Indulge in the glimmering nocturnal cityscape after dusk and walk the old cobbled-stone streets of the noble Castle district. On this walk we will first cross the Chain Bridge and take a light climb up the castle hill to enjoy the medieval atmosphere and picturesque setting of the lit-up royal palace and state houses. You will hear the legends of the Chain Bridge lions and if the sculptor really committed suicide after its completion or how the miracle of a Mary statue helped Hungarians reconquer the fortress. The Castle also hides memories of the Second World War when the sweet old streets turned into a desperate battleground. 09:30	Trip to Szentendre A getting away from the city vibe of Budapest to the most bohemian and most popular location outside the city: the artistic town of Szentendre! We take the boat at Vigadó tér and reach Szentendre in the Danube Bend after a 1.5 hrs long picturesque ride. We spend a few pleasant hours walking the narrow Mediterranian streets filled with small art galleries, cafés and little shops offering interesting handcraft works. Having tasted a real Hungarian specialty the famous Lángos, you can choose to take the boat at 17:00 or the local train back to the city. 18:00	Short City Tour in the Inner City of Budapest First time in Budapest? Get introduced to the city on a walk around the imposing streets of inner-Pest. Discover its sweetly eclectic architecture and find out about the most momentous episodes of its history. This walk will lead you through magnificent classical and art nouveau buildings, get you a glimpse at the gorgeous Buda panorama and the Danube bridges and a taste of Budapest city life. Are you a returnee in the capital of Hungary? Walk the cozy, familiar streets with a guide this time and find out more about how people of vision, intellect and courage from the Middle Ages to modern days left their imprint on the city. 21:30	Night-bathing at Rudas Bath Rudas Bath was originally a Turkish Bath which was expanded into a spa with thermal baths, a swimming pool, wellness and sauna world. It is the only bath in Budapest that offers night bathing on weekends. 09:30	Hungarian Gastronomy Tasting Tour Explore the culinary landscapes of Hungary on our gastro-walk! The walk starts with the popular Hungarian curd snack "túró rudi" and the salty "pogácsa", before taking you to the traditional market place in Hold utca. There you can try a variety of cheese, cold cuts, pickles and Hungarian delicacies. You will know more about Hungarian culinary customs, history and culture while we move on to have a main meal and to try Hungarian wines. The tour introduces you to a variety of meals, you decide on the spot what you want to try, and you pay only for your consumption.
