Abstract

The aim of this panel is to investigate the concept of citizenship through the prism of political activism, acts of resistance and contentious politics. In the past years, in Europe, we have assisted to a great variety of protests, both in person and through social media. More recently, despite the many COVID-19 restrictions, people have not given up their willingness to make their voice heard. In this panel, we are looking for papers which will address the concept of citizenship from a variety of perspectives, in lights of recent rise of populism, independentism movements, activism against marginalization and exclusion, political engagement through social media, as well as engagement in charity organizations as a way of doing politics through other means. We are especially interested in receiving contributions that come from different geographical areas and as well as different theoretical spectrum.
