Luís de Sousa is deputy director and research fellow at ICS-ULisboa, working on corruption control, good governance, local government, regional integration, cross-border cooperation, and comparative politics. He was recently awarded the 2020 National Association of Municipal Assemblies Prize for his research on the quality of local democracy. He was co-founder and first chairperson of the Portuguese chapter of Transparency International. He acts as local research correspondent for the European Commission and international consultant on corruption control policies. He has produced expert opinions on corruption control legislation and carried out various integrity system assessments to foreign governments, on behalf of the European Commission, OECD/SIGMA, Council of Europe and UNDP. He coordinates the doctoral programme in Comparative Politics at ICS-ULisboa.
