About the journal
The European Journal of Political Research (EJPR) is a leading journal in political science, currently ranked 6th in the Social Science Citation Index and published four times a year by Wiley, in partnership with the ECPR.
The EJPR specialises in articles articulating theoretical and comparative perspectives in political science, and welcomes quantitative and qualitative approaches.
The journal is currently edited by Emiliano Grossmann (Sciences Po) and Sofia Vasilopoulou (University of York). Due to the year-on-year growth in submissions, ECPR and Wiley are seeking to appoint a third editor, commencing 1 October 2018, to work alongside Emiliano and Sofia.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established political scientist to take this well-established and high-profile journal forward.
About the role
The position will start on 1 October 2018 and will run for six years (with a review at the mid-point).
The co-editors work together to receive submissions, desk reject manuscripts that do not meet the EJPR standards or fall outside the priorities of the journal’s editorial policy, send out manuscripts for peer review, and accept/reject articles as appropriate. The co-editors are also responsible for the production process once articles are accepted, including supervising final revisions of manuscripts and determining the order of publication.
The co-editors also work together to:
- contribute to changes and innovations designed to increase the reach and impact of the journal
- determine the composition of the editorial board
- produce the annual report delivered by the editors at the end of the calendar year
- represent the journal at major conferences, such as the ECPR's Joint Sessions of Workshops and General Conference, and the APSA Annual Meeting
- take part in the professional debate about trends and standards in political science journals
- contribute to discussions and strategies relating to the ECPR's broader publishing programme and mission
The editors are responsible to the ECPR’s Publications Subcommittee, which in turn reports to the ECPR’s Executive Committee, and as such will be expected to prepare a formal report for the Committee each spring. Editors are required to meet with the Committee at least once a year at the annual Publications Retreat in Colchester, and with publishers and co-editors as and when required.
Person specification
The ECPR is seeking an experienced political scientist with an international reputation and a wide range of contacts in Europe and the rest of the world. We particularly encourage female candidates to apply.
The position requires significant commitment, and applicants should be prepared to be proactive in running the publication day-to-day and also developing it (in collaboration with the publisher and the Publications Subcommittee) in the longer term. It is expected that applicants will come from an ECPR member, or associate member, institution.
The successful applicant will receive an annual editorial fee and a fund to cover travel expenses incurred in attending meetings related to the journal.
Application process
Please email a full CV, along with a covering letter explaining how you would develop the publication under your editorship, to the ECPR’s Communications Manager, Rebecca Gethen.
The closing date is Friday 14 September 2018.
In the first instance, all enquiries should be directed to Rebecca Gethen.
