Published in association with the ECPR’s flagship journal, the European Journal of Political Research (EJPR), Political Data Yearbook (PDY) contains comprehensive and authoritative data and analysis of electoral results, national referenda, changes in government, and institutional reforms for a range of OECD countries, within and outside the EU.

Building on the PDY content, the PDY:Interactive (PDYi), is a unique, freely available online data source in a fully searchable and downloadable format, making it an invaluable tool to those working in this area of the profession. 

The current editorial team comprises Andreas Bågenholm (University of Gothenburg), Alistair Clark (Newcastle University) and Thomas Mustillo (Purdue University). Andreas will complete his term on 28 February 2019, so we are seeking a new Associate Editor to replace him, from 1 March.

The work of the three editors is split, with two taking responsibility for the narrative and analysis (where one is primarily responsible for editing the text and one for checking the accuracy of the tables), and one for the database and the development of the PDY:i. We are seeking an editor primarily to take on the second task, i.e. checking the accuracy of the tables. The role involves:

• Checking the accuracy and consistency of the tables and data for each country submission;
• Working with the authors to resolve any textual or data ambiguities or inconsistencies in the reports;
• Recruiting authors when a current author for various reasons has to be replaced or when a new country is added;
• Ensuring that each entry is accurate, in clear and grammatical English, and includes all of the required elements;
• Writing the editors’ introduction to each volume, highlighting common trends and important issues;
• Working with authors to ensure correct translation of tabular data into the database format used in the PDY:Interactive website; and
• Working with authors and the publisher’s copy editors to ensure corrected proofs are delivered to the publishers in timely fashion.

ECPR is seeking an energetic political scientist with a strong research background on political parties and governments in the European and advanced industrial democracy context. Candidates should ideally have some experience of the international publishing industry, either as an editor or author, and a high proficiency in written English if it is not their first language.

The successful applicant must come from an ECPR Member or Associate Member institution (or an institution committed to joining the ECPR at least for the duration of the Editorship). They will receive an annual editorial fee and a fund to cover travel expenses incurred in attending meetings related to the journal.

The role is offered for six years, starting 1 March 2019, with a review by ECPR's Publications Subcommittee at the mid-point.
