The Futures Lab – Launching Summer 2020

  #ecprfl20

Are you in the final stages of your PhD and looking to kickstart your career? Then our brand-new event, launching in our 50th anniversary year, is designed just for you.

Join our top-tier experts at Sciences Po Grenoble from Thursday 25 – Friday 26 June for two days of interactive and educational career-advancing and skill-developmental training. And what better setting to take in all your new knowledge and skills than the breathtaking mountains in the 'capital of the French Alps'.

You spoke. We listened.

Unique in its aims and scope, the Futures Lab responds directly to the ECPR mission to nurture the next generation of political science scholars. This initiative is an evolution of the former ECPR Graduate Student Conference and, following interactive market research with the graduate and student networks of ECPR, it has been redesigned academically and structurally.

Two tracks. Limitless possibilities.

The academic programme is designed around two main tracks:
Academic – for those aiming to pursue a career in academia
Practitioner – for those looking to enter public, private or NGO sectors

Content within each track is adapted specifically for each field, enabling you to learn best practice from our specialists. What’s more, you can join either of these tracks at any time as part of your registration, giving you the freedom to design a personalised experience that’s right for you.

Your tailor-made professional advice.

No matter what your desired career path may be (even if you don’t yet have one in mind), the Futures Lab provides an essential platform for expert advice on:

  • Navigating the job market
  • Professional networking
  • Publishing in academia and the policy world
  • Fund raising and grant-writing
  • Essential professional skills development

Our cohort of leading experts, with experience and leadership in academia and the policy and NGO sector, will lead in-depth discussions and deliver hands-on workshops to boost skills essential to building your future career. We’ll also offer plenty of opportunities for networking in an informal setting, as well as one-to-one mentoring.

The Futures Lab programme is currently under the development of our Academic Convenors, Erin Jenne and Erzsébet Strausz, in conjunction with ECPR's Training Subcommittee.
