Travelling to the University from the City Centre

The University of Oslo is a campus university, located just outside of Oslo city centre. The 'Blindern' University Campus can be reached easily using either the metro or tram system; the journey takes approximately 10 minutes by metro and 15-20 minutes by tram.

  • By Tram: Take tram 17 or tram 18, both in the direction of Rikshospitalet. The tram stop, Universitetet Blindern, is located very close to the Faculty of Social Sciences (Eilert Sundts hus), where registration, the exhibition and Roundtables will take place.
  • By Metro: Take lines 4 or 5, both in the direction of Vestli, Sognsvann and Ringen. The metro stop, Forskningsparken, is the closest stop to the Eilert Sundts hus where the registration takes place, taking a five minute walk. Alternatively, you can also alight at Universitetet Blindern taking an eight minute walk to Eilert Sundts hus.

Please note: Tramlines 17 and 18 will be replaced by buses between the tram stops Jernbanetorget and Holbergs plass, please view the Tram map here. Travelling from the City Centre to the University, we would advise travelling by Metro.

Travelling to the Plenary Lecture and Opening Reception

The Plenary Lecture will take place at the University Aula (Domus Media, Karl Johansgate 47), which is located within Oslo city centre and not on the University Campus. If travelling straight from their Panels on Blindern Campus, participants can take Metro lines 4 or 5 from the Forskningsparken station to Nationaltheatret, the closest stop to the Aula. This journey takes approximately six minutes on the metro and a further six minute walk. The Aula is famously decorated with paintings by Norwegian artist Edvard Munch so attending the Lecture will provide participants with an opportunity to view his work.

The opening reception following the Plenary Lecture will take place at the Opera House (Kirsten Flagstads Plass 1), which is located next to Oslo Central Station (Jernbanetorget) also within the city centre. From the Aula to the Opera House it’s a pleasant 15 – 20 minutes walk down the main street Karl Johan. This map of Oslo city centre shows the proximity of the University Aula and the Opera House. To travel from the Aula to the Opera House, participants can take the Metro from Nationaltheatret to Jernbaneorget, which is two stops and takes approximately three minutes and then an eight minute walk.
