Getting around the City

Public transport within Bamberg relies exclusively on buses. More than 20 routes connect the outer quarters and some villages to the Central Bus Station (ZOB). In addition, there are several 'Night Lines' (which run from 20:00 to midnight) and some park-and-ride lines from car parking facilities on the periphery to the town centre. However, many trips around Bamberg can be done by foot in less than 30 minutes. However, many trips around Bamberg can be done by foot in less than 30 minutes. You can also rent a bike for the duration of the Winter School, as there is an excellent network of cycle paths connecting Feldkirchenstraße (the Winter School location) with different parts of the city.

Buses run from the city centre to Feldkirchenstraße during the day, at least every 10 minutes. From the ZOB you can take buses no. 914 (direction Gundelsheim Rathaus), 915 (direction Bamberg Greiffenbergstr.) or 907 (direction Drosendorf/Memmelsdorf) and exit at the Feldkirchenstraße bus stop. Or buses no. 931 (direction P+R Kronacher Str.) and 901 (direction Bamberg Gartenstadt) and exit at the Kloster-Banz-Straße bus stop. After 19:00 the frequency is reduced, but there are still connections. A single journey currently costs €1.80, a day ticket €4.00and a week ticket €13.00. These are available from machines at many bus stops as well as from the Information Center at the ZOB or directly from bus drivers.

The route map of the local transport company is available here.

More information on the local public transport system can be found here.

Please note, there is also a free VGN Fahrplan & Ticket App available (Android, iOS and Windows), for local routes, timetables and ticket prices.

Night Bus

The daily timetable of the Bamberg transport service ends at 20:00. Thereafter, four night bus lines (935, 936, 937 and 938) run in the urban area at 40-minute intervals, starting at ZOB. Lines 936, 937 and 938 run until midnight, line 935 to Kantstraße until 00:50am. Also on Friday and Saturday all four lines have additional services at 00:50 and 01:30. For the exact departure time, check the bus schedule at the bus stops or alternatively  here.

Call-line Taxi (ALT)

At night the call-line taxi is an alternative option to taking a bus. The service runs along bus routes and operating times can be seen in bus timetables. To be picked up, you should call 0951-14-443, at least half an hour before the departure time specified in the timetable. When calling you must state which bus stop you want to be picked up from and where you want to be dropped off. Bear in mind that you can only be picked up/dropped off at a regular bus stop.
