Conference format

The Academic Programme will consist of Lectures, Roundtables and Themed Sections and Panels on topical subjects. The Programme will be very comprehensive with Sections covering all the main areas of the study of politics and gender in a broad sense, as well as Sections focussing on emerging research areas. In order to make the organization of the ECPG even more inclusive, we open a call for Section proposals.

Proposals process

There is a two-stage process for submitting proposals to the Academic Programme:

Call for Sections 24 June – 9 September 2020 (midnight UK time)
Call for full Panels and individual Papers 6 October 2020 – 8 December 2020 (midnight UK time)

Each participant may submit up to two paper proposals (this includes papers submitted as single-authored papers, co-authored papers and roundtable participation). Additional proposals will not be considered. Hence, each participant contributes as a paper giver (including presenter and co-author) for a maximum of two papers.

Each participant may submit a maximum of one organized Panel proposal OR one roundtable proposal. Additional proposals will not be considered.

Each participant may serve as Panel (Co-)Chair or Panel Discussant once. This includes acting as (co-)chair/discussant for roundtables.

Stage 1 Call for Sections

Deadline 9 September 2020 (midnight UK time)

The call is open to everyone and by no means limited to members of the ECPR Standing Group nor will it give automatic preference to proposals from ECPR member institutions. We are also very much open to new and innovative ways, others than the usual panel format, of organizing (some of) the sections. All proposals to organise Sections must be in English, and submitted online using the form on the ECPR website.

Before submitting the proposal, please note:

  • The Section should be headed by two to three Section Chairs from different countries and institutions and at different stages of their careers. We stimulate cross-(sub)disciplinary sections and we encourage people from different regions in Europe to propose a section together in order to secure a broad representation of north, south, east and west Europe. We particularly welcome the participation of early-career scholars and those who are underrepresented in the profession.
  • Only one of the proposed 2-3 Section Chairs should submit the Section proposal. If you would like to add a third Section Co-Chair to your proposed Section, please email us and we can add this onto your proposal form.
  • A Section can accommodate 3 to 8 Panels on a specific topic. Section chairs can signal their estimated optimal number of panels to allow for a balance between sections. However, the final number of panels allocated will depend on the number of paper proposals for the Section. The final titles and composition of panels will be decided upon after paper/panel submission closes.
  • Section proposals should include a title and abstract of no more than 750 words summarizing the key objectives and themes, and ideally including ideas for some panel and paper topics. Section proposals can include a number of predefined panels (maximum 50% of all requested panels) but should also ensure the opportunity for non-predefined panel and paper proposals to be submitted in a later stage. Please note: proposing predefined panels is not a precondition and does not influence the selection chances!
  • All proposals to organise Sections must be in English, and submitted online using the online form on the Conference website. In order to submit a section, a MyECPR account is needed (please create an account here if you do not already have one).
  • The submission process will be managed through MyECPR

The Sections will be selected by the ECPG organizing team with an eye on the broad representation of the field. All Section proposals must be submitted online by 9 September 2020. The ECPG organizing team will accept or decline proposed Sections by 30 September 2020 and proposers will be notified accordingly.

Stage 2 Call for Panels (with Papers) and individual Papers

Deadline 8 December 2020 (midnight UK time)

The second stage of the process is open to anyone wishing to propose a complete Panel with Papers, and those wanting to propose individual Papers to a particular Section. Panels provisionally proposed as part of accepted Sections must also be submitted through this procedure. Panels should include 4-5 Papers. Panel proposers do not need to belong to an ECPR member institution, but they must have a MyECPR profile.

The deadline to submit complete Panels (with Papers) and individual Paper proposals is 8 December 2020 (midnight UK time).

From 6 October 2020, Section Chairs can view Panels and Papers being proposed to their Section via their MyECPR account.

From 9 December 2020, the ECPG organizing team will review the number of Panels/Papers received and will determine the number of Panels per Section. Please note that some Sections may be requested to reduce the number of Panels or accept additional Panels by the ECPG organising team.

From 15 December 2020, Section Chairs may approve/decline/reserve Panel and Paper proposals in their Section. Section Chairs have until 26 January 2021 to complete their reviews and finalise their Sections via MyECPR.

Section Chairs are expected to evaluate all Panel and individual Paper proposals in their Section, to allocate individual Paper proposals to Panels and, where appropriate, to form Panels out of individual Paper proposals. It is the Section Chairs’ responsibility to allocate Chairs and Discussants for Panels in a Section. Chairs and Discussants do not have to be presenters in the respective section. When evaluating Panels and Papers, Section Chairs should consider the quality of the proposal and the fit with the Section theme. Section Chairs should also ensure the participation of scholars at different career stages, of different backgrounds and from different regions among Paper givers, Chairs and Discussants.

Panel Chairs and Paper presenters will be notified of the outcome of their proposal in early February 2021. If your Panel or Paper has been marked as reserved, ECPR will contact you as soon as possible if a space becomes available in the programme. Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine when this will be.

Final Academic Programme

The Academic Programme will be available on the Conference website in early February 2021. A full timetable will be published by late March 2021. Amendments to Section/Panel/Paper information must be sent to the Events Team by 15 May 2021 to be included in the printed programme.

Registration

Online registration opens on 3 February 2021. Further details, including registration fees, will be on the Conference website in due course. Participants attending and appearing in any capacity in the Academic Programme must register and pay before midnight UK time on 22 March 2021. Registration and payment takes place through MyECPR. Anyone who has not registered and paid by this date will be withdrawn from the conference and replaced.

Updates to the printed programme

If you are unable to attend the conference after your proposal has been approved, or after you have registered, even if at the very last minute, it’s very important to tell us you can’t attend. Panels can collapse without sufficient Papers to create a meaningful discussion, or a Chair/Discussant to lead it. Despite cancellation at short notice, Panel or Section Chairs can sometimes rearrange schedules to avoid disappointment. In the lead-up to and during the ECPG, we maintain a constantly updated webpage to keep all participants aware of changes to the Academic Programme after the date on which the print programme went to Press. If you have an update, please email us as soon as possible.

Paper upload

Approved Papers can be uploaded to the ECPR website via the Presenter's MyECPR profile from 22 March 2021. Only the person listed as Presenter can do this. Papers should be in PDF format and in English. Please upload or circulate your Paper to fellow Panellists by 18 June 2021 so they have time to prepare comments and questions.

Please be aware that uploading your Paper via MyECPR constitutes agreement for ECPR to publish the Paper on this website.

Conference timetable

Panels are scheduled in time slots commencing at 09:00 on Wednesday 7 July and concluding in late afternoon on Friday 9 July 2021. Participants should ensure their availability for ALL time slots.

Visas

Visas are the responsibility of the individual. Depending on the purpose of travel and your country of origin, different types of visas will apply. Enquire well in advance about entry regulations by consulting the nearest Slovenian embassy or consulate in your home country. Please note, visa letters will only be supplied once we have received your registration fee in full, and after the 7-day cooling off period. ECPR cannot offer any further advice on visas.
