Bamberg's ECTS Credits

Participants have the opportunity to gain up to four ECTS credits from the University of Bamberg. One ECTS for Short Preparatory courses (7.5 hours) plus up to three ECTS credits for one-week Main courses (15 hours).

On successful completion of the required work as detailed below, and following receipt of your grades from the Instructor, Bamberg will send participants a credit certificate.

In addition to ECTS Credit certificates, all participants who attend 80% of their course classes will receive a certificate of attendance, provided that they attend the sessions and sign the attendance sheets.

Please note, if participants wish to obtain credits they must inform their Instructor on the first day of the course when they sign the attendance sheet in class.

 

2-day Short Preparatory courses: One ECTS credit

One ECTS credit is awarded for successful completion of the following*:

  • 15 hours of preparatory work/reading which must be completed before arrival at the Winter School.
  • 7.5 hours of classes/lectures/lab hours.
  • 7.5 hours of assignments/additional lab hours/reading during the Winter School in addition to standard teaching hours.

* A pass is awarded based on attendance and completion of assignments.

 

One-week Main Courses: Up to three ECTS credits

Two ECTS credit are awarded for successful completion of the following*:

  • All reading prior to class (expect 20 hours of preparatory work/reading/data preparation).
  • Attendance of all course sessions (there are 15 hours of classes/lectures/lab hours [3 hours per day]).
  • All daily assignments e.g. lab assignments or small essays if applicable (this varies depending on course type) [Expect to spend about 25 hours completing assignments/additional lab hours/readings during the Winter School in addition to the standard 15 teaching hours].

*A pass for these two credits is awarded based on completion of daily assignments or sitting an exam to be completed on Friday 20 February (the Instructor will decide which).

One additional ECTS credit is awarded for successful completion of a project or final assignment to be submitted after the Winter School (deadline usually two to three weeks after final day of classes). Expect to spend circa 30 hours on a project report/assignment.

 

Grading System / Pass rates

The following is based on the Univeristy of Bamberg's grading system from 1-5.

1 Very good 81 - 100% Pass
2 Good 71 - 80% Pass
3 Satisfactory 61 - 70% Pass
4 Adequate 51 - 60% Pass
5 Unsatisfactory Less than 51% Fail


General rule: A participant not obtaaining 51% (average for the number of credits concernced) is allowed to repeat the evaluation (asignments and / or exam and / or project report) the following year.
