Abstract

This article seeks to study the relation between Jair Bolsonaro's speeches in 2019 and the maintenance of gender inequality in Brazil - and, as a consequence, its impact on Brazilian democracy. Primary and secondary sources were used to conduct the research. Based on the data gathered, it was concluded that Bolsonaro's speeches are a violation of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988 and that, even if the gender equality is a constitutional right, it does materialize in real life for the LGBTQ+ population. The non-discrimination principle, one of the pillars of the Brazilian democracy, is constantly violated. Therefore, the data gathered suggests that Bolsonaro's speeches contribute to the weakening of the Brazilian democracy.
