Standing Groups

General

A core mission of the ECPR is to support the development of the discipline by making it easier for political scientists throughout Europe to engage in co-operative advanced research, training and research-led teaching. Among the instruments to advance this goal are Standing Groups, which are integral parts of the ECPR. Standing Groups engage in activities such as organising conferences and summer schools, establishing awards and publishing newsletters and journals. Standing Groups organise significant sub disciplines or broad research themes over a longer time period; they have a sizeable Standing Group / Research Network membership base, and they offer a wide range of activities.
Research Networks are more specialised than Standing Groups, and/or have fewer members, and/or are more limited in terms of the range of activities, and/or of a temporary nature, for example to test the viability of a group before applying for Standing Group status.

Joining / Leaving

There are two places you may join a Standing Group / Research Network. Either on the list of current standing groups page. You may join multiple groups without leaving this page or on the details page for a particular Standing Group.
There are three places you may leave a Standing Group / Research Network: On the list of current standing groups page (You may leave multiple groups without leaving this page). On the details page for a particular Standing Group. On the MyGroups page (You may leave multiple groups without leaving this page).
At this time there is no fee to join a Standing Group or Research Network.
There is no limit to the amount of groups you may join.
You are currently not affiliated with an ECPR member institution; therefore the Convenor of the group needs to approve the Standing Group / Research Network membership request. If you feel this is an error, please contact ECPR Central Services.
Yes. Your Standing Group / Research Network membership will be pending the approval of that Standing Group / Research Network’s convenor, no matter how many times you leave and join.

Renewal

Standing Group / Research Network membership to ECPR Standing Groups and Research Networks is annual and based on the calendar year, so your current Standing Group / Research Network membership will run until 31 December at which point you will be invited to renew it. This is to ensure that the Standing Group / Research Network membership for each Standing Group and Research Network stays current and up-to-date.
Standing Group / Research Network membership runs until 31 December every calendar year; you will be able to renew your Standing Group / Research Network membership for the following year from 1 December. If you are from a non-member institution you must renew your Standing Group / Research Network membership by mid-January for it to be done so automatically, outside of this window it will need to be approved by the Convenor again.
If you are affiliated to an ECPR member institution, you may join the Standing Group / Research Network again at any time instantly. However, if you are not affiliated to an ECPR member institution, the Convenor will need to approve your Standing Group / Research Network membership again.
By visiting the My Groups page in MyECPR.
If you are just renewing your Standing Group / Research Network membership without leaving the Standing Group / Research Network, or letting your Standing Group / Research Network membership lapse (see above) then no. If you have left the Standing Group / Research Network then you will be treated as a new application and will require approval from the Convenor.
