About

Ester Cois, PhD in Comparative Social Research, is Researcher and Assistant Professor in Sociology of Environment and Territory at the University of Cagliari, where she teaches Urban Sociology (Master's Degree in Policies, Society and Territory and Master's Degree in Architecture). Since 2013, she is Managing Editor of the band A scientific journal “Sociologica, International Journal for Sociological Debate” and since 2015 she is Managing Editor of the Scientific Series “Local Development & Territories” (Rosenberg & Sellier). From 2006 to 2018, she has been Scientific Co-ordinator of the National School in Local Development “Sebastiano Brusco”. She’s been PI of the Research Project “Rural territories in transition beyond the economic crisis. A study of new entrepreneurship, youth agency and community empowerment in Sardinian inner areas” (2017-2020, funded by Regional Law 7/2007), and since 2018 she's a member of the UniCa team in the international UE-Horizon 2020 Project “SUPERA. Supporting the Promotion of Equality in Research and Academia” (agreement No 787829). Since December 2020 she’s PI of the Italian Research Unit of the Erasmus+ International Project “SMILE. Social Meaning Impact through LLL Universities in Europe”. She represents SPOL Department in the Scientific Committee of the Interdepartmental Center “Cagliari Accessibility Lab” and in the Expert Team for the Strategic Plan of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, and she’s in the scientific board of the second level professional Master “Entrepreneurial Planning for Innovation in Construction Sector” (PIE). Her current research interests focus on Urban and Rural Sociology, with specific reference to gender and age inequalities in the use of public space; social and economic sustainability in local development processes; regeneration of disadvantaged contexts in urban areas; gender and generational dynamics in the labor market (with a specific focus in Higher Education sector) and in family choices.
