About

Takeshi Hieda is a professor at Graduate School of Law, Osaka Metropolitan University, Osaka. He was an assistant professor at Waseda University between 2010 and 2012, and an associate professor at Osaka City University between 2012 and 2016. His research interests are in comparative political economy in advanced industrialized countries, comparative welfare states, comparative social policy, and so forth. His Ph.D. dissertation explored political determinants of cross-national variations of long-term care policy for frail elderly people at Department of Political and Social Sciences, European University Institute, Florence. His journal article based on his Ph.D. thesis is awarded with the Early Stage Career Researcher Prize of 2012 by Social Policy & Administration. The revised dissertation, Political Institutions and Elderly Care Policy: Comparative Politics of Long-Term Care in Advanced Democracies, was published as a book from Palgrave Macmillan in 2012. His current research project explores the impacts of partisan politics on social protection programs against "new social risks," such as reconciliation between paid-work in labor market and unpaid-work in households, poverty among lone parents, and precarious employment among low-skilled workers. His articles have appeared in academic journals such as Comparative European Politics, Party Politics, European Journal of Political Research, Social Policy & Administration, and other Japanese journals.
