Our Standing Group on Gender and Politics invites you to join their winter 2026-2027 seminar series: Doing Gender and Politics Research in Challenging Times and Environments.
Across Global North and Global South, researchers working on gender, sexuality, feminism, and equality are faced with increasingly challenging political, societal and scholarly environments. Longstanding methodological questions related to doing feminist research have been complemented by new pressures arising from democratic backsliding, attacks on academic freedom, the rise of anti-gender politics and growing polarisation around gender and diversity and rise of violence and armed conflicts. At the same time, feminist scholars continue to develop innovative research practices, forms of solidarity and strategies of care.
This seminar series is a space for collective reflection and exchange on the practical, methodological, ethical, emotional and political dimensions of conducting gender and politics research today. Alongside identifying challenges, we explore how researchers navigate them, what forms of methodological innovation are emerging, and how gender and politics scholars as a community can support one another in sustaining critical research agendas and practices.
The series consist of four thematic sessions, each with three short talks and plenty of time for discussion and sharing of experiences.
The series comprises monthly talks showcasing the latest thinking in the study of environmental politics, delivered by group members and special guests, followed by a moderated discussion.
The event is open to anyone interested in research addressing topical matters in gender and politics, completely FREE!

Our Standing Group on Gender and Politics forms a broad-based network on issues relating to the study of gender and sexuality in politics and world politics. The Group actively encourages workshops, panels and research groups with an emphasis on gender and seeks to increase the profile of women in the main fields of political science.
