We provide a range of funding streams to scholars to support both their individual careers and the wider development of the discipline.
Event participant grants
Each year we provide grants to help PhD Students and early career scholars from full ECPR member institutions participate in our events. Each grant aims to cover the full travel and accommodation expenses of the participant and successful applicants also have their event registration/course fee waived. In order to ensure fairness across the membership, each full member can receive up to two grants per event per year (a total of 10). In 2020 the total budget for participant funding across all events is set at €95,000.

The Bonus Fund
As of 2020, we will ring-fence 10% of any annual surplus for new funding activities to be set each year by the Executive Committee at its March meeting. The activities identified for 2020 are:
- A ‘Rising Star Award’ to support an outstanding PhD student without access to other funds, to participate for a year in ECPR activities;
- An ‘Active Participation’ award, providing one year’s free membership to the ECPR member who had the highest affiliate attendance proportionate to size, in the prior year; and
- A Research Project grant for a Standing Group or Research Network.

The 50th Anniversary Fund
On the occasion of the ECPR’s 50th anniversary in 2020, an Anniversary Fund has been established, dedicated to supporting political scientists facing difficulties joining our activities and events whatever the reason (economic, political, social or other). The Fund was set up with an initial donation from the ECPR of £10,000, to which all members of the community (and especially those from richer or more advantaged countries) are invited to contribute.

Scholars at Risk
We provide support for scholars who, for reasons related to academic freedom, are unable to participate in ECPR activities and maintain contact with the political science community. Funding and other support is available to scholars facing these difficulties.

Standing Group and Research Network funding
The ECPR’s Groups and Networks are integral parts of the organisation, and as such have access to a range of practical and financial support. This includes the provision of membership and administration services via the website; WordPress websites hosted and maintained free of charge; a full suite of support to host their own events, including use of the online registration platform; use of the ECPR’s bank account and financial services; and financial support to hold events and sponsor those of related organisations.
