Edinburgh has a huge selection of places for a drink, from traditional pubs to cocktails to wine bars. There are also a number of gin distilleries, and don’t forget to peruse the Scottish whisky selection!

56 North 2 W Crosscauseway
Specialising in gin cocktails but serving a wide range of drinks and food, this bar also has their own gin distillery. Some outdoor seating in season.

The Bow Bar The Bow (Victoria Street)
As traditional a pub as it gets, with accolades for excellent drink quality. Extensive selection of Scottish whisky. Convenient for the restaurants Howie’s and The Outsider. No outdoor seating.

Doctors Forrest Road
This traditional pub is where you’d be likely to bump into university staff enjoying a drink after work. No outdoor seating.

The Royal Dick at Summerhall Summerhall
The former location of the veterinary school (nicknamed 'The Royal Dick'), Summerhall, has a great bar (serving bar foods) in its courtyard which you can reach through the box office. Bonus: on-site brewery (Barney’s) AND gin distillery (Pickering’s). Plenty of outdoor seating available all year.
