The UCD College of Social Sciences and Law is situated at the heart of UCD’s main campus. It is home to over 6,000 students and is the largest and most comprehensive in Ireland for study and research across Social Sciences and Law disciplines.
As a leading centre for education and research in Ireland the College has eleven academic Schools and a number of associated Research Centres, which encompass the widest range of Social Sciences and Law programmes.
The 11 Schools include Archaeology, Economics, Education, Geography, Information & Communication Studies, Law, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations, Psychology, Sociology and Social Policy, Social Work & Social Justice.
The School of Politics and International Relations (SPIRe) is a dynamic, multi-faceted and highly-international school offering exciting and professionally-valuable programmes of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our academic staff are engaged in cutting-edge research on a wide variety of political issues, including ethno-political conflict, human rights, political economy and international development, party and electoral politics, politics and data science, deliberative democracy, and Ireland's role in the European Union.
The School is home to six research centres: the UN-linked Centre for Sustainable Development Solutions, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, the Centre for Peace and Conflict Research, the Centre for Asia-Pacific Research, the Centre for Connected Politics, and the new Centre for Democracy Research. It also hosts the Peter Mair Library on comparative and party politics.
