Abstract

This papers in this panel presents developments in a new approach to combining critical discourse analysis with critical policy analysis, as showcased in Critical Policy Discourse Analysis (eds. Montesano Montessori, Farrelly, Mulderrig). This approach bridges the literature on critical discourse analysis and critical policy analysis bringing new analytical power to policy analysis. Four major claims are made for Critical Policy Discourse Analysis: 1. It encourages and facilities a relational analysis of policy 2. It emphasises the constitutive role of discourse in policy analysis 3. It encourages analysis of the context of policy discourse 4. It encourages analysis of the connection between policy and power The panel papers presents a clear application to concepts and analytical procedures for critical policy discourse analysis and present new analyses which represent the very latest application of this approach.
