Abstract

Papers in this panel examine the causes and consequences of party organizational change from a cross-national perspective, employing newly-collected data on how parties’ structure their internal relationships and decision-making procedures. The papers take on one or more of three tasks: charting the commonalities and differences in ways that contemporary parties structure their voluntary wings; investigating the circumstances under which electoral defeat leads to organizational changes; identifying cultural and other factors that create predispositions for certain types of organizational change.
