Abstract

There is a rising convergence in the IR literature regarding the pivotal role of International Organizations (IOs) in shaping global governance. However, research is still lagging on the ways in which various international and domestic actors and factors shape IOs themselves. Going beyond state-centric narratives, the papers in this panel contribute to the scholarship on IO contestation and response, shedding light on the role of domestic as well as transnational actors in shaping IO decision- and policy-making, and the various endogenous and exogenous factors that play a role in how international organizations change and (re)act vis-à-vis their environment. Moreover, this panel brings together papers that examine not only large and Western IOs, but also regional and non-Western IOs.
