Abstract

The panel welcomes papers that address national state cases from the perspective of the dialectic between specific national policies triggered by the global Covid-19 pandemic crisis, and the citizenry responses to them. What does the crisis bring about regarding the growing illiberal tendencies and authoritarianism of the contemporary democracies? What is the impact of the crisis on the conservative and right wing populist activism, but also on the broader social discontent of the citizens? What can those specific case studies tell us about the changing dynamics between politics and society, state and democracy, citizens, intellectuals, and political elites, on national but also on transnational level?
