Food Governance

Abstract

The attention to food governance issues within the European Union is increasing; especially in the current debates about the 2014-2020 reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Some suggest that food security is used only as a vehicle to maintain the CAP, whereas others highlight the real threat of food shortages due to climate change and rising global demand. Additionally food safety regulations may not only be used to safeguard safe and qualitatively good food but also as a tool to affect international trade. Hence, we pose the question: What is the future of food and agriculture governance in the European Union? This panel welcomes all papers that focus on EU food governance and/or the CAP, either from an historic or comparative perspective. Especially papers that analyse the multi-level governance dynamics on EU food policies are welcome.
