Feasibility and Change in Energy Transitions

Abstract

While decarbonization may be seen as a necessity by scientists and environmental activists, and while technological change makes an energy transition imminent, there is considerable push-back against the speed, direction and character of change. Energy systems play a vital role for modern societies, but this means that they are surrounded by deeply grounded practices, sticky institutions, and deeply entrenched political and economic interests. Papers in this panel will explore the themes of change and feasibility form different angles, combing case studies with large comparative and theoretical contributions.
