Abstract

This panel examines the relationship between civil society and political institution from various angles and in various contexts. It zooms into civic monitoring and its effect on democratizing political institutions; it analyzes the effects on party support for protest on party structures; it assesses to what extent, if at all, the tradionally wide gap between civil society and institutionalized politics in post-socialist countries is changing; and it looks into how collective action can find entry into political agenda setting and, eventually, policy change.
