Abstract

This second panel is associated with the panel on European border control practices: convergence and divergence on issues of national security and European security. It explores in more detail the cases of Portugal, Hungary and the United Kingdom on the divergence strategies of certain governments. It also discusses the use of digital tools in border control (interoperability of databases, private-public relations, transatlantic relations), which have major implications for the dynamic between the management of the EU's internal and external borders. Using mixed methods and qualitative comparison approach, it theorises the transversal dynamics of technological convergence and political heterogeneisation.
