Presenter: Juan Rodríguez Teruel, University of Valencia Chair: Nicolò Conti, University of Rome Following the July 23rd general election, it took four months to establish a new executive in Spain, exhibiting notable resemblances to its predecessor. Despite this continuity, significant alterations have emerged in both the parliamentary and cabinet spheres. This online seminar delves into these changes, aiming to understand the main factors conditioning the upcoming government term. I will focus on the mainstream right's electoral resurgence, the metamorphosis of the radical left (a pivotal ally of the incumbent Spanish Socialist Party), and the heightened parliamentary influence of Catalan pro-independence parties. I will review the party and electoral challenges, as well as their strategies adopted ahead of the upcoming European election in 2024.
