Transnational issues and frames on the far-right

Abstract

Transnational links between far-right parties and movements in different continents have become ever more frequent. By adopting common frames and building discourse alliances, these actors are effectively cooperating on an increasing range of topics. The proposed panel looks at these trends by exploring how the far-right is mobilising in the transnational arena on issues like climate change, gender equality, conspiracies, and illiberalism. Its contributions use both qualitative and quantitative approaches to cover transnational mobilisation at different levels, from the online space to the European Parliament to intercontinental events like CPAC. The panel thus provides novel insights into the transnational issues and frames adopted by the far-right, as well as the implications that this cooperation across borders has for liberal democracy.
