Increasingly, the key challenges in and interventions for catalyzing the energy transition and accelerating climate change mitigation require a cross-sectoral approach. Yet, much of the practice and research is organized sectorally. Moreover, existing cross-sectoral work is largely issue- or nexus-specific and does not systematically connect theory, methods, and empirics in a manner that can inform nexus governance more broadly. This panel aims to build on relevant work in diverse research fields —for example, on joined-up government in public administration, multi-sectoral transitions in science & technology studies, policy coordination and policy integration in policy sciences/studies, and water-energy food nexus in sustainable development—to advance knowledge on nexus governance in the energy transition. We welcome conceptual, methodological, and/or empirical contributions that shed light on how problems, solutions, or processes at the intersection of two or more sectors are governed and discuss the implications for nexus governance in the energy transition.
