Abstract

The current polycrisis is affecting everyone’s lifes in multiple ways and increases the need to shed light on equality policies from gendered and intersectional perspectives. Vulnerable and marginalised groups are particularly affected by external crises leaving the EU with an urgent task to counteract this effect. Yet, the intersectional framework within the EU falls short in fostering equality and leaves actors unable to address new challenges on this level. Simultaneously, the backlash against intersectional approaches and gender mainstreaming in some countries and within societies significantly hinders EU institutions, potentially leading to new cleavages. This panel aims to highlight the threats to gendered and intersectional approaches and will discuss how to address them on a theoretical level.
