Abstract

Parental leave, maternity benefits, universal child credit, access to maternal care and forced sterilization are prominent examples of policies used to affect fertility intentions and completed fertility. This panel brings together a diverse range of research exploring critical aspects of policies and practices that affect individuals' fertility choices and experiences through the lenses of reproductive justice. From the exploration of parental leave policy through the Capability Approach to understand fertility choices, to the Europeanization of Romani women's reproductive rights, debates on maternity benefits in post-independence India, the reproductive politics of the 'two-child limit' in the UK, and the implementation of initiatives to enhances access to maternal care in Germany, the presentations shed light on the complexities and nuances of fertility policies within the realm of reproductive justice. The objective of this panel is to stimulate a thought-provoking discussion on the intersections of policy, politics, discrimination, and governance of fertility choices in the context of reproductive justice.
