Abstract

"This panel explores the multifaceted aspects of gender, identity, and political engagement in various societal contexts. It delves into the integration challenges faced by Franco-Algerian women in France, examining their unique self-identification processes amid cultural, religious, and national narratives. The panel then shifts to the examination of gender gaps in voting behavior in the US, particularly focusing on the reaction of men to socio-economic shifts in relation to women. Another critical aspect of the discussion is affective polarization, where gender-based differences in evaluating political leaders are scrutinized, particularly in the European context with an emphasis on how women and men are polarized in their evaluations of political parties and leaders. The panel also examines the role model effect of women politicians, questioning the universal appeal of women leaders and the importance of shared social identities in political inspiration. It further investigates how intersectionality impacts political leadership, especially in the areas of civil rights, power dynamics, and entrepreneurship. These insights provide a comprehensive view of how gender and intersectional identities shape political participation, leadership potential, and public opinion, offering crucial perspectives for understanding the ongoing challenges and opportunities for inclusive representation and political engagement."
