Abstract

Globally, the far right is seeing a resurgence at both the ballot box and in social movements. A growing literature now addresses the gendered nature of the extreme right-wing, and, in particular, the ways in which this ideology appeals to traditional ideas of both masculinity and femininity. The papers in this panel interrogate this in relation to a range of empirical case studies, focussing on the role of masculinity and men in fight-wing discourse. How have ideas of masculinity been utilised by the new extreme right? How does this relate to ideas of violence - and, at times, the actual use of violence? Does this discourse hold across both online and physical spaces?
