Abstract

This panel aims to provide an in-depth examination of the complex dimensions of a mayor's leadership and the role of elites in local governance. The main objective is to shed light on the various facets of mayoral governance, focusing on crisis management, local responsiveness, accountability mechanisms, lobbying practises and democratic innovation at the local level. By exploring these critical issues together, the panel aims to uncover the multi-faceted role of mayors in addressing complex challenges, engaging with local elites, and promoting effective and responsive governance in times of crisis and democratic decision-making. Mayors are central figures in the local governance landscape, and understanding their leadership dynamics is critical to fostering resilient and adaptive communities. This panel will shed light on the nuanced strategies of mayors, drawing on real-world experiences and research findings. Through insightful discussions and presentations, this panel will offer valuable insights that will inform and inspire those concerned with local governance, policy making and community development.
