Abstract

The papers in this panel together make an innovative contribution to the literature on elite conceptions of political representation. The papers in this panel draw on different methodologies and national and comparative data-sets and present findings on how politicians understand the rural disconnect, the future of representative democracy, representation ethics (such as promise-breaking) and the contribution that citizen-representatives can make to processes of political representation. The panel mirrors the perspective of the panel "Political representation: Citizen demands and views".
