Migrant workers oftentimes face uneven, restricted labour conditions in their new residence country, particularly when they remain irregular. While labour practices toward irregular and regular migrants are habitually used by private employers; migration and employment policies play a significant role in facilitating or constraining exploitation and adequate access to welfare rights. This panel examines the nexus between the labour market and migrants’ access to welfare in their new residence countries. It brings together diverse papers looking at specific policies, and how they shape and incentivize social effects toward migrants’ access to the labour market.
