Abstract

This panel explores critical issues in climate finance, policy implementation, and renewable energy planning. It examines the risks of corruption in climate finance, emphasizing the need to identify the underlying conditions and communicate findings for effective policymaking. It also explores the complex relationship between nationalist attitudes and resistance to climate policies in different countries, drawing on theories of anti-reflexivity and cultural backlash. Shifting the focus to political dynamics, the panel examines policy lock-ins in climate adaptation, using comparative analysis to uncover patterns that impede policy change. Finally, the panel addresses the challenges of planning for renewable energy systems in the context of populist politics, using an empirical case study in Germany to illustrate the intersections between planning imperatives and political tensions. Through interdisciplinary insights and empirical evidence, this panel provides a comprehensive understanding of the barriers and opportunities to climate action and highlights the importance of collaborative research efforts for effective policy responses.
