In a context of increasing biodiversity loss and rapid environmental degradation, this panel addresses different facets and dimensions of environmental conversation and restoration governance. Through a series of empirical case studies ranging from Japan, China, California and Turkey, and deploying different methodologies, this panel gathers a series of papers which contribute to scholarly work on what constitutes ‘good’ governance in environmental conservation Papers focus on different levels of governance - from global efforts to advance nature-based approaches to university-led policies which tackle academic flying – and the role of specific policies and actors – from activist networks and NGOs to actors of water resource management, public recreation access, and species protection.
