Abstract

Narratives, discourses and imaginaries play a fundamental role in the direction that is given to climate and environmental policy. More broadly, the way meaning is constructed, channeled and shared by different types of actors help to better understand ongoing socio-ecological transformations and envisage new policy directions. In this panel, papers take a closer look at different types of environmental narratives which are currently shaping the global environmental policy landscape. Drawing on different discursive-analytical and narrative policy frameworks, and combining both empirical and theoretical insights, papers discuss situated narratives which underpin local political events and contexts (e.g. narratives surrounding soil pollution in China), but also display interdisciplinary and critical approaches by integrating feminist discourse research and sustainability-related gender studies.
