Abstract

Policy tensions within transitional justice processes can serve as a double-edged sword, simultaneously obscuring and revealing the complexities inherent in addressing past injustices. On the one hand, conflicting policies may obscure what the overarching goals of transitional justice are. On the other, policy tensions can reveal the underlying power dynamics and differing interpretations of justice within a society. At the end, it is only through constructive engagement that transitional justice mechanisms can fulfill their transformative potential in societies recovering from conflict or authoritarianism.
