With digitalization more data has become available from back in time. This panel welcomes papers that studies parliaments or legislators using historical data. These may involve time series up to our own time (such as the Who Governs dataset – see Bértoa & Enyedi 2021), sequences, studies of ‘critical junctures’ in the development of a parliament’s history, or case studies – such as the use of ‘lotteries’ (Cirone & Van Coppenolle 2019). The panel also welcomes methodological papers discussing the possibilities and problems of using historical data in a legislative setting.
