Abstract

The panel explores the interplay of security, humanitarianism, and strategic border control as interpreted and applied differently across European countries. The papers discuss how European governments strategically balance and reshape often conflicting principles, both domestically and in cooperation with each other. In doing so, the panel highlights the consequences of these dynamics, both for the general EU approach to migration, but also for the lives of migrants.
