Abstract

This panel investigates the complex relationship between state violence and civilian responses in contexts of political oppression and conflict. Focusing on both historical and contemporary case studies, the discussion will explore how states use violence to maintain control, suppress dissent, and manage social unrest. Panelists will examine the range of civilian reactions to state violence, from passive resistance and nonviolent protest to active rebellion and civil disobedience.
