Abstract

We will have two presentations by Alice Lechat (Université Paris 1-Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Cécile Poitevin (University of Bonn) on their ethnography research on gender dynamics in two different contexts: France and Ghana. Alice will present on epistemological and methodological issues of research positioning within the framework of an ethnographic study on the institutionalization of gender budgeting within the City of Paris. Cécile will present her research on gender power dynamics in smallholders' adaptation to climate change, where she uses ethnographic methods, including photovoice, to analyze the impact of gender-based violence on smallholders’ women and men agency as well as the decision-making process in Ghana. The presentations will be followed by discussion by dr. Carin Tunåker (University of Kent), a lecturer of law, Social Anthropologist and an ethnographer, with experience in working with local communities and disadvantaged populations, the homeless in particular.
