Abstract

This panel consists of paper that address the multi-faceted dynamics surrounding the relationship between democratic backsliding and women's empowerment. Contributions engage the effects of democratic backsliding and /or democratic reversals on women’s economic, social, and political empowerment, broadly understood. At the same time, the works look at the strategies developed by different actors in coping with the effects of democratic backsliding. The panel aims to provide a well-rounded understanding about the issue at hand as well as providing the opportunity for further reflection and directions for further research.
