Abstract

As we see increased regressions on abortion rights and attacks on reproductive autonomy, abortion rights activism has developed innovative strategies, inclusive coalitions, and intersectional perspectives to ensure access to abortion. This panel will explore contemporary movements that extend beyond legal access to advocate for reproductive justice and healthcare equity. The papers will examine the strategies that abortion rights use before and after legal change (and why abortion activists continue to be needed after liberalisation of laws), the challenges of lengthy mobilisation campaigns and an auto-ethnography of leading an abortion rights campaign. The authors are scholar-activists and all have experience in abortion rights movements.
