This panel engages with the soon to be published edited volume The Internationalisation of European Integration Studies (Routledge), which explores the evolving status of European Integration Studies as an academic discipline in and beyond the borders of the European Union. The book offers a comprehensive overview of the internationalisation of European Integration Studies across diverse geographical contexts, including EU Member States and third countries covering Europe, the Middle East, South-East Asia, and the Pacific. It examines how European Integration Studies were integrated into teaching curricula and research agendas, the degree of institutionalisation achieved, the challenges and opportunities faced in different academic environments, and above all, the EU’s involvement in the process. This panel will provide a critical discussion of the volume’s contributions to debates on the globalisation of European Integration Studies. It will address questions such as: How European Integration Studies were developed in different cases across the globe? Who produces European Integration Studies? How do local contexts and global shifts shape the teaching and research of European Integration Studies? And what implications does this have for the future of the field and our knowledge of the EU? The session will feature the editors and the contributors of the volume and invited discussants who will offer constructive critiques and reflections on the book’s theoretical and empirical insights. The aim is to foster dialogue on the diversity of perspectives in European Integration Studies and to consider pathways for further research and collaboration in a global academic landscape.
