This panel focuses on (re)producing gender inequalities from the perspective of institutions, narratives, and strategies of resistance. The first paper explores the barriers encountered by women leaders in higher education institutions in the Republic of Azerbaijan and they approaches they employ to navigate these challenges. The second paper analyses how the United Arab Emirates is promoting women as economic and political actors as part of a strategy to diversify its economy and as part of a virtue-signaling strategy in the service of gaining international reputation. The third paper explores the burgeoning phenomenon of female digital content creation in Central India, examining how it serves as a catalyst for economic empowerment and the subsequent shifts in traditional gender norms. The fourth paper analyses the differential impact of the economic crisis that followed the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru, in relation to the different kinds of households, focusing on changing survival strategies, care burden, and the role of state-funded social programs in household economy. The fifth paper studies the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championships that attracted a record number of spectators and how this was reflected in news coverage and framing of the tournament and how this may impact gender equality policy in sports and culture.
