Abstract

This panel examines contemporary transformations in European security and defence through the lens of policy change, governance innovation, and integration dynamics within the European Union. Bringing together contributions that span defence procurement, migration–security linkages, foreign policy adaptation, crisis management, and innovation governance, the panel explores how the EU responds to increasing internal and external pressures while navigating institutional complexity and political contestation. The panel also advances conceptual debates on EU crisis management and security governance offering a multidimensional perspective on European security, and highlighting the interplay between institutional design, national politics, and transnational innovation in shaping the EU’s capacity to act as a security provider in an increasingly contested international environment.
