Emerging Approaches to AI Regulation Within the EU

Abstract

This panel brings together five papers that examine emerging approaches to AI regulation from complementary angles. They analyse the co-regulatory logic of the risk-based AI Act, the use of regulatory sandboxes as tools of experimentalist governance, the media agenda that shapes AI policy debates across France, Germany, Switzerland, and the USA, the comparative mapping of AI policy portfolios and their instruments, and the tension between regulation and promotion in Germany and the UK. Together, the papers advance our understanding of how regulatory capacity for AI is being built, and how far the EU's approach travels beyond its borders.
